About the position

House of Refuge Sunnyslope (HRS) is a Christian faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing transitional housing and supportive services to homeless individuals and families in underserved communities. The Development and Communications Director is a newly created position that plays a crucial role in achieving the organization's fundraising and communication goals. This position is pivotal in establishing and nurturing relationships with donors, developing strategic fundraising plans, and enhancing public awareness of HRS's mission and impact. The Director will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and the Fundraising Committee to set and achieve ambitious fundraising targets. Responsibilities will include managing donor communications, building a robust donor base, and conducting prospect research to identify potential major gift donors. The Director will also be responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy that encompasses various channels such as newsletters, social media, and direct mail to engage and inform donors about the organization's work. In addition to fundraising, the Development and Communications Director will oversee the agency's donor CRM database, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely acknowledgments. The role requires a proactive approach to donor engagement, with a focus on cultivating long-term relationships and increasing donor retention. The Director will also represent HRS in public settings, conducting tours and speaking about the organization's mission to inspire support and donations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage annual fund campaigns and related donor communications.
  • Build a robust donor base by prospecting and cultivating new donors and maintaining long-term relationships with current donors.
  • Identify, cultivate, and track a portfolio of major gift donors for the CEO to solicit and manage.
  • Identify, cultivate, and track a separate portfolio of long-term loyal smaller donors as well as monthly givers for DCD to retain and maintain relationships with as bequest/planned gift prospects.
  • Conduct prospect research through multiple donor sources.
  • Maintain comprehensive donor briefs, engagement reports, and wealth capacities.
  • Prepare and strategically deploy the CEO to meet with key potential donors.
  • Develop plans and activities to ensure individual donors are engaged year-round, educated about House of Refuge Sunnyslope, and informed about the impact they are making annually through a calendar of strategic touch points.
  • Create and implement plans to increase the number of monthly donors.
  • Retain and increase the giving of existing monthly donors.
  • Identify and cultivate a list of individuals, foundations, and corporations and work in collaboration with the CEO, Fundraising Committee, and Board of Directors to continually update strategies.
  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan to maximize public awareness and support for the mission and work of HRS.
  • Assist the CEO in managing vendor relationships ensuring deliverables are on time and within budget.
  • Manage the agency donor CRM database to ensure accuracy for contact information, reports, gift entry, and timely acknowledgments.
  • Maintain constituent records within the CRM and recommend improvements for data processes.
  • Assist in preparing accurate reports and dashboards as needed for planning and analysis of development activities.
  • Provide support for the Board of Directors and the Advisory Board in relation to donor tracking and management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Two years of non-profit related experience in resource development including event planning, campaigns, communications, social media, and CRM database management.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to present effectively before groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, and CRM databases.
  • Strong commitment to the mission and vision of HRS and a strong walk in Christian faith.

  • Ability to inspire and engage audiences through public speaking.
