About the position

The Development and Volunteer Coordinator at Carpenter's Shelter plays a crucial role in managing the organization's volunteer programs and supporting the Development Office. This mid-level position requires a compassionate and detail-oriented individual who can effectively engage with volunteers and assist in fundraising efforts. The coordinator will oversee the recruitment, training, and management of over 1,200 volunteers, ensuring that the shelter's needs are met while fostering a supportive community environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead contact and manager for all volunteers, providing direction and coordination for volunteer functions within the shelter.
  • Recruit, screen, retain, train, and manage volunteers, maintaining ongoing relationships with them through feedback and recognition.
  • Collaborate with the Kitchen Coordinator to manage kitchen volunteers and meal schedules.
  • Manage monthly calendars for various volunteer activities including front desk duties, life skills courses, job coaching, and children's programs.
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication with the volunteer pool regarding shelter needs and opportunities through various mediums.
  • Organize and conduct shelter tours and orientations for new volunteers.
  • Coordinate and execute service/impact days for volunteers.
  • Represent Carpenter's Shelter at public forums, information sessions, and community engagements.
  • Outreach to local schools, colleges, and faith-based communities to develop cooperative relationships.
  • Evaluate volunteer programs for effectiveness and recommend/implement changes as needed.
  • Manage records of in-kind contributions and organize special drives for children in the shelters.
  • Organize holiday volunteer assignments and related special events.
  • Assist the Development Office with fundraising, daily operations, and special events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of experience in volunteer engagement/management, customer service, or fundraising.
  • Prior knowledge and experience with databases such as Volgistics, Canva, and Luminate-Raiser's Edge is preferred.
  • Excellent working knowledge of software applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional oral, written communication, and presentation skills are required.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and goal-driven.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of people.
  • Interest in homelessness and related issues.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Ability to pass a background check and possess a valid driver's license.

  • Experience in nonprofit organizations.
  • Familiarity with community outreach and engagement strategies.

Benefits
