About the position

The Development and Communications Director at the Cat Adoption Team is responsible for creating and executing comprehensive fundraising and communication strategies to enhance community awareness and support for the organization's mission. This role involves managing relationships with donors, overseeing marketing and brand strategies, and participating in organizational leadership and strategic planning. The director will supervise a small team and ensure effective fundraising operations and communications efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in long-term planning and develop annual implementation plans with the management team.
  • Create and execute a development department plan to sustain and grow annual fundraising revenue.
  • Develop and implement a communications department plan to broaden awareness of CAT locally and nationally.
  • Manage communications and development department budgets, forecasting revenue and expenses.
  • Oversee department support team and manage the employee life cycle of direct reports.
  • Promote a positive work culture and provide feedback to direct reports.
  • Oversee fundraising messages and tactics, developing materials and communication strategies.
  • Manage major giving programs and execute major/planned gift solicitations.
  • Develop and implement annual giving programs, including direct mail campaigns.
  • Build and maintain relationships with individual donors and key constituents.
  • Supervise CAT's grant program and ensure its quality and effectiveness.
  • Oversee the administration of third-party donation programs and activities.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal nonprofit fundraising laws and regulations.
  • Conduct overall organizational communications and messaging tactics.
  • Manage CAT's marketing and advertising messaging and tactics.
  • Oversee the continued development and use of the CAT brand.
  • Serve as managing editor for CAT's publications and oversee production schedules.
  • Develop a strategy for CAT's primary social media channels and manage communications assistant.
  • Manage media and public relations for the organization, serving as a spokesperson.
  • Oversee all aspects of the organization's website(s) and ensure alignment with CAT's goals.
  • Plan, organize, execute, and attend fundraising and donor engagement events.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 4+ years of professional fundraising experience
  • 2+ years of management experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel is a must), Google Suite, Shelter Buddy, DonorPerfect, Donorbox, etc.
  • Knowledge of supervision best practices, fundraising, and public relations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree or higher
  • CFRE or other fundraising certificate
  • Previous experience managing social media/marketing communications
  • Previous experience in nonprofit development
  • Previous experience working within a nonprofit or animal welfare organization
  • Proven track record in fundraising, including leadership
