About the position

The Development Coordinator at the Don Harrington Discovery Center supports the organization's development efforts, focusing on donor research, stewardship, and fundraising initiatives. This part-time role involves working at both the Don Harrington Discovery Center and Wildcat Bluff Discovery Center, assisting in event planning, community partnerships, and grant management to enhance contributed revenue through various giving avenues.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in all aspects of fund development including donor research and identification, stewardship, event planning, campaign support, data entry and documentation.
  • Support and manage donor stewardship, including acknowledgment letters, social media posts, phone calls, mailings, and coordinating with the Marketing Department to ensure proper donor recognition.
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of fundraising campaigns and collateral, event sponsorships, and communication.
  • Support development of community partnerships.
  • Represent Discovery Center Collective at appropriate functions during the year.
  • Assist in planning and executing special events at both locations.
  • Draft grant proposals, gather appropriate information, and manage grant reports.
  • Support in management of grant and solicitation calendars.
  • Assist in evaluating, improving, and creating fundraising materials.
  • Assist in implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan to achieve the organization's financial and programmatic goals.
  • Work with DHDC Directors/staff to coordinate and participate in community outreaches, including setting up booth/area, working the event, and breaking down.
  • Promote and cultivate a culture of fundraising among all staff and board members at the Discovery Center.
  • Participate in meetings with staff, board, donors and potential donors.
  • Assist in coordinating event planning with appropriate team members to ensure smooth event planning and procedures, including marketing dissemination, scheduling, and promotion.
  • Assist in managing and updating the museum's donor and member Database, Blackbaud's Altru.
  • Work within the museum's project management system, Clickup.
  • Maintain updated and accurate lists of donors, members, and supporters.
  • Communicate effectively with all staff to keep Discovery Center operations, programming, and events running smoothly.
  • Provide the Development Manager with reports of work and progress.

Requirements

  • Experience or interest in event planning, logistics, and/or management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, and content management web software.
  • Excellent organization abilities, including managing simultaneous projects and competing priorities, and keeping track of details.
  • Desire and commitment to grow professionally and continually improve knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to work within a high-energy, highly collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to work within a job that includes extensive desk work and periodic physical demands to be expected with event management and setup.
