About the position

The Development Director at the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment will lead fundraising efforts to secure $6 - $8 million annually in philanthropic and public funding. This role involves strategic planning, relationship management with funders, and collaboration with CSCCE leadership to meet fundraising goals. The Development Director will also oversee proposal development and ensure effective communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze needs and assist in the creation of strategic plans for fundraising and other programs.
  • Identify a portfolio of foundation, government, and individual prospects.
  • Conduct prospect research to find new foundations and high-capacity individual donors.
  • Maintain a funder and prospects database to ensure donor data and communication records are current.
  • Develop and manage a strategy to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects.
  • Create presentations, donor briefings, slide decks, and other fundraising collateral.
  • Monitor fundraising goals and propose new sources of funding.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with funders and provide narrative reports on CSCCE's growth.
  • Manage the coordination, development, and submission of proposals to meet fundraising objectives.
  • Support program staff in writing proposals as needed.
  • Collaborate with other UC Berkeley campus fundraising staff as needed.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years' experience in fundraising.
  • Demonstrated track record in successful revenue growth from foundations, governments, and individuals.
  • Advanced knowledge of fundraising, foundation relations, and public relations concepts.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Advanced project management skills and experience conducting projects independently.
  • Advanced written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Google tools and donor databases (e.g., SmartSheet).
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Expertise in the areas in which CSCCE works.
  • At least five (5) years of job experience in fundraising.
  • Proven success fundraising in a research and policy environment and/or university.
  • Past experience working for or with philanthropic organizations.
