About the position

The Development Director at Davis Street Community Center is a leadership role focused on driving impactful fundraising initiatives to support low-income families in the San Leandro area. This position is responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes individual giving, corporate sponsorships, major gifts, and annual campaigns. The Development Director will work closely with the CEO, board members, and development staff to achieve fundraising goals and enhance donor relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement strategies for growth in fundraising areas including major gifts and corporate grants.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 250 current, lapsed, and prospective donors.
  • Engage donors at events and through various communication methods.
  • Plan and execute donor cultivation events and recognition activities.
  • Write persuasive presentations and personalized communications for donors.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Coordinator on fundraising materials.
  • Work with senior management and the board to enhance fundraising capabilities.
  • Monitor and report on fundraising progress to the CEO and board.
  • Develop budgets and forecast revenue and expenses with senior staff.
  • Personally solicit gifts and collaborate with the CEO on major solicitations.
  • Oversee donor management systems and provide training to board members.
  • Create and implement a planned giving program.
  • Oversee the Annual Giving campaign and solicit sponsorships for events.
  • Achieve monthly goals for donor visits and maintain accurate records.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressively challenging fundraising experience.
  • Experience with major gift portfolio management preferred.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems like Salesforce or Blackbaud preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills.
  • Passion for the mission of Davis Street and understanding of poverty-related issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in developing a culture of philanthropy in a medium to large-sized nonprofit.
  • Experience with direct mail and online giving campaigns.
