About the position

The Development & Fundraising Manager (D&FM) at the Westchester Children's Museum is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the museum's marketing and fundraising initiatives. This position aims to enhance the museum's financial sustainability through strategic donor cultivation, stewardship, and the implementation of comprehensive fundraising programs. The D&FM will work closely with the Director of Development & Marketing, the Executive Director, and the Board of Trustees to drive fundraising efforts and engage the community in support of the museum's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary ambassador and solicitor for the museum, nurturing existing relationships and establishing new ones.
  • Coordinate solicitation meetings with major donor prospects and internal staff.
  • Ensure the stewardship program exceeds expectations and builds strong donor retention.
  • Engage and motivate the Board of Trustees and colleagues to foster a culture of philanthropy.
  • Establish relationship management protocols for the Executive Director and Board of Trustees to cultivate major gifts.
  • Cultivate relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and government agencies.
  • Partner with the Director to develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies.
  • Plan and execute tours, events, galas, and campaigns to engage donors and raise funds.
  • Prepare written materials such as proposals, solicitations, reports, and appeal letters.
  • Help build a new CRM and maintain accurate records of donors, gifts, and pledges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (nonprofit management, fundraising, communications, or arts administration).
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, particularly in Westchester and Greenwich/Stamford areas.
  • Proven track record of success in individual giving, grant writing, and event planning.
  • Experience in identifying, qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting donors, especially major gifts donors.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate the museum's mission persuasively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and donor database software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in a museum setting or other cultural organization is strongly preferred.
