About the position

CHILDREN AT RISK is currently seeking candidates to fill several internship positions for the Spring, Summer, and Fall sessions. This internship is open to individuals at the college, graduate school, or PhD level, and candidates can fulfill the internship in person at the Houston office or conduct it remotely from anywhere in Texas. The selected candidates will have the opportunity to learn from a dedicated and collaborative group of policy experts who work strategically to leverage their knowledge and ongoing research about issues facing children and families in Texas to influence policy decisions. Interns can apply as Generalists or to specific centers of study and advocacy, including K-12 Education and Early Childhood Education, Children's Immigration Network (Immigration), Center for Social Measurement and Evaluation (Data Analysis and Graphic Visualization), Public Policy and Law Center (Legislative Advocacy and Human Trafficking), Media Activism (Social Media, Traditional Media and Communications), Texas Racial Equity Collaborative (how race and inequity affect children and families in Texas), Center for Opportunity and Resilience (Improving Opportunities for Young Adults), and Development (Fundraising and Event Planning). The specific responsibilities of the internship will depend on each candidate's skills, career goals, interests, and CHILDREN AT RISK's priorities. The organization expects that this internship will serve as a career development tool for the selected candidates and aims to maximize their internship experience. Candidates are encouraged to bring their dedication and focus, along with excellent research, writing, or data analysis skills to assist in research and advocacy efforts across various issue areas. A passion for social justice issues and a belief in the importance of education and advocacy on children's issues are strong advantages. All candidates must demonstrate professionalism, good written and verbal communication skills, a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and the ability to work well both individually and in a team environment.
