About the position

The Development Manager, Walk MS is a key role within the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, responsible for engaging participants and volunteers to support the mission of the organization. This position focuses on implementing local operational plans, managing event portfolios, and achieving fundraising goals while ensuring a positive experience for all involved. The role requires strong relationship-building skills and a collaborative approach to work with various teams and volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Implement campaign strategies to retain, grow and recruit participants for assigned events.
  • Execute operational plans focusing on acquisition, retention, and cultivation of top fundraisers, teams, participants, sponsors, etc.
  • Manage mid-level portfolios that include teams, top fundraisers, participants, sponsors, volunteers, etc.
  • Coach, develop, and supervise market staff when applicable.
  • Collaborate with the Development team to ensure strong event experiences and VIP level recognition.
  • Work with market staff to implement successful team fundraising and recruitment weeks.
  • Monitor the performance of fundraising portfolios to ensure timely responsiveness and maximize retention.
  • Leverage mission-related resources to engage participants and motivate increased fundraising.
  • Steward top fundraisers and team captains year-round with a mission focus and gratitude.
  • Facilitate volunteer engagement for fundraising and event experiences in the assigned event revenue portfolio.
  • Cultivate volunteers and share opportunities for reciprocal growth and learning.
  • Collaborate with key staff to maximize engagement and results of committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science in non-profit management, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or Business (8 years in event management and building relationships will be accepted in lieu of degree).
  • At least 4 years of related experience in non-profit fundraising, events, or volunteer management.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and build strong relationships.
  • Strong team player with a professional demeanor.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, cultural values, and expectations of the National MS Society.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Competency to work with multiple data systems and tools.
  • Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation.
