About the position

The Development Officer for Major and Mid-Level Gifts at Columbia College is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding current and potential donors for gifts of up to $10,000. This role involves developing and executing fundraising initiatives to support the college's mission and goals, managing a portfolio of prospects, and coordinating various fundraising activities. The position requires effective communication and relationship-building skills, as well as the ability to travel regionally to engage with alumni and friends of the college.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual prospects for gifts up to $10,000.
  • Manage a portfolio of 100+ prospects at various stages in the fundraising process.
  • Research, write, and present at least 20 proposals annually for $10,000 that may be pledged over five years.
  • Travel regionally to build and advance relationships with alumni and friends of Columbia College.
  • Increase support for Giving Day and Columbia College Fund through outreach efforts.
  • Prepare briefings, gift agreements, and correspondence for prospects in collaboration with Advancement leadership.
  • Communicate closely with Advancement Services staff regarding major and planned gift prospects.
  • Manage special fundraising projects to enhance affinity-based fundraising and increase support for the college.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1-2 years of fundraising experience or comparable sales experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database systems
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Higher education fundraising or alumni relations experience
  • Fundraising experience in a non-profit setting
