About the position

As a Senior Development Product Owner at USAA, you will represent the business on an agile team, focusing on understanding and communicating business needs to write and refine user stories, prioritize work, and guide technical teams. This role requires critical thinking and problem-solving skills to partner with business owners and development teams to deliver effective solutions, utilizing advanced knowledge of various delivery methodologies, including Agile.

Responsibilities

  • Work with business and Subject Matter Experts to understand business strategy and vision, writing and prioritizing user stories and features.
  • Own and maintain a prioritized work backlog for one or more Agile teams, ensuring user stories are consumable and testable.
  • Review and accept output of IT and/or business development to ensure acceptance criteria are met.
  • Serve as a direct representative of the business with delivery teams, representing customer perspectives throughout the product delivery cycle.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to develop, execute, and release products in alignment with road maps.
  • Partner with sponsors and stakeholders to define and document business processes, understanding needs and risks.
  • Prepare the business for change, providing tactics and metrics for benefits and adoption.
  • Work with various technologies to oversee development, testing, and controls.
  • Apply advanced knowledge in business development, seeking opportunities for improvement.
  • Coach and mentor other Product Owners.
  • Lead development across multiple teams at the project or program level, ensuring risks are identified and controlled.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 6 years of experience in process improvement, project delivery, or business analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products and product management tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of multiple technical software delivery methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, SAFe).
  • Experience analyzing business requirements and process flows to streamline business processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of Process Engineering methodologies.
  • Ability to independently gather business requirements and develop business capabilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with military service verification and/or member eligibility.
  • 3+ years of digital development for desktop or mobile applications.
  • 2+ years of experience in Banking or P&C Insurance.
  • Experience leading a Scrum Team in development work.
