About the position

The Development Program Specialist (DPS) at Brown University plays a crucial role in managing a portfolio of principal and major giving prospects, focusing on those capable of contributing $5M or more. The DPS collaborates with senior fundraising leaders to prepare for solicitations, manage communications, and coordinate stewardship efforts. This position also involves training and guiding Development Associates and Coordinators to ensure effective regional engagement and adherence to processes. The DPS must possess a deep understanding of the University and its initiatives to effectively engage with top prospects and adapt to shifting priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of 75-100 principal and major giving prospects in partnership with senior fundraising leaders.
  • Plan and execute high-impact development activities for the prospect portfolio.
  • Provide training and guidance to Development Associates and Coordinators.
  • Ensure effective communication and stewardship with top prospects.
  • Adapt strategies based on evolving philanthropic discussions and priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in fundraising, development, sales, customer relations, nonprofit, or higher education.
  • Experience planning and executing high-end events.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong project and time management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Proficiency in computer software programs including Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and FileMaker Pro.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in higher-education fundraising or complex organizations.
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud.
