About the position

The Development Project Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing complex real estate and economic development projects within the Community Development Department of the City of Brooklyn Park. This role involves coordinating with various city departments, generating innovative ideas and programs, and demonstrating their viability to achieve the housing and redevelopment goals set by the City Council. The position requires strong project management skills and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including government units and development firms.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage economic development projects involving large, complex real estate development.
  • Coordinate with other city departments as appropriate.
  • Manage inquiries and relationships with development firms.
  • Prepare and provide information and reports to supervisors, boards, commissions, and the public.
  • Interact and negotiate with government units including the State of MN and HUD.
  • Facilitate organizational development teams and community engagement meetings.
  • Prepare, write, and administer grants and loans for the EDA.
  • Respond to questions related to housing, redevelopment, and economic development projects.
  • Assist with the development of division plans, policies, and priorities.
  • Assist with other department projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in urban studies, housing, public administration or related field.
  • Three years of experience in redevelopment, housing, and/or economic development.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience managing economic development projects.
  • Project management skills.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to an inclusive workplace related to racial equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in urban studies, housing, public administration or related field.
  • National Development Council Housing Development Finance Professional certification.
  • National Development Council Economic Development Finance Professional certification.
  • Experience leading small developers through the development finance process.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali, Laotian or Vietnamese.
