About the position

The Development Specialist at Community Healing Centers plays a crucial role in enhancing the organization's fundraising efforts and donor engagement strategies. This position is designed for a full-time, hourly, non-exempt employee who will work in a hybrid environment, primarily based in Kalamazoo, MI. The Development Specialist will collaborate closely with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and the Marketing & Communications Manager to develop and implement effective strategies aimed at cultivating donor relationships and increasing contributions to the organization. In this role, the Development Specialist will be responsible for overseeing donor services and performing various administrative duties within the Fund Development Department. This includes maintaining a detailed donor database, tracking donations, and ensuring timely acknowledgments of gifts. The Development Specialist will also engage in grant research and writing, support the growth of various giving programs, and coordinate annual fundraising activities and events. The position requires a strong commitment to the organization's mission and values, particularly in relation to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. They will be expected to represent Community Healing Centers at community meetings and events, furthering the organization's outreach and engagement efforts. This position is integral to the overall operations and fundraising strategies of Community Healing Centers, contributing significantly to the fulfillment of its mission.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the CDO to develop and implement short and long-term development plans.
  • Support the growth of giving programs, including Planned Giving, Monthly Giving, Major Giving, corporate sponsorships, and annual campaigns.
  • Conduct grant research and write grants monthly.
  • Coordinate and execute annual fundraising activities and events with the CDO and Marketing & Communications Manager.
  • Maintain a detailed donor database, tracking donor status, donations, and demographic changes.
  • Ensure timely acknowledgments of gifts, including generating and mailing formal tax-exempt thank you letters.
  • Proofread and edit communications and marketing pieces frequently.
  • Represent CHC at community meetings, events, and local functions as needed.
  • Embrace and implement Community Healing Center's vision and values related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Perform other supportive duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or progressing towards a degree.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proof of COVID-19 and Influenza Vaccinations, annually.

Nice-to-haves

  • Event planning experience is preferred.
  • Grant writing experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and CRM donor software (Kindful) or ability to learn quickly.
