About the position

As a Device Integration Engineer at Emory Digital, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the seamless integration and operation of biomedical, telehealth, and medical devices within Emory Healthcare. This position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, including biomedical engineers, application and technical professionals, and healthcare providers, to achieve efficient, secure, and reliable device integration, data exchange, and system interoperability. Your primary responsibilities will include developing comprehensive integration plans, providing incident support, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA guidelines for PHI data. You will also be involved in device integration operations, troubleshooting, and leading integration efforts for new devices, while maintaining high standards of quality and customer service. In this role, you will engage in weekly on-site collaboration with stakeholders to develop integration plans for medical devices and telehealth systems. You will provide customer service by addressing integration-related issues, assisting other engineers with problem-solving, and ensuring that service level standards are met. Your leadership skills will be essential as you work effectively with others to maintain high application systems availability and integration. You will also be responsible for monitoring requests, updating tickets, and following established procedures to ensure compliance with HIPAA guidelines. Additionally, you will participate in reporting and data management, training new staff on best practices for PHI data transmission, and performing device integration tasks. Your technical skills will be put to use as you conduct compatibility assessments, integration testing, and oversee the deployment and configuration of devices. You will also demonstrate proficiency in device integration and telehealth analysis tools, while adhering to ITIL best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive integration plans for medical devices, telehealth, and biomedical systems through weekly on-site collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Provide incident support to customers regarding medical device integration issues, ensuring customer service standards are met.
  • Assist other engineers with problem-solving, troubleshooting, and knowledge transfer related to device integration applications.
  • Advise application software specialists on potential solutions to work problems and suggest workflow and system configuration improvements.
  • Monitor requests in the queue daily, follow up with customers, and document troubleshooting efforts to ensure timely issue resolution.
  • Lead integration efforts for new biomedical, telehealth, and medical devices, working closely with vendors and biomedical engineers.
  • Perform compatibility and technical assessments, conduct integration testing, and oversee the deployment and configuration of devices.
  • Train new staff on PHI data transmission best practices and ensure compliance with HIPAA guidelines.

Requirements

  • 5 years of application systems/administration experience OR a bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel and data manipulation.
  • Ability to work effectively with others to achieve high levels of systems availability and integration.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to device integration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Biomed support background is a plus.
  • Proficient in at least two computer languages.
  • Proficiency in healthcare data standards and protocols, including HL7, DICOM, FHIR, and telehealth standards.
  • Experience with integration technologies and tools, such as middleware, interface engines, and API frameworks.
  • Familiarity with healthcare information systems, such as EHRs and telehealth platforms like Epic, Philips Capsule, and Amwell.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or Certified Healthcare Technology Manager (CHTM), are a plus.
