About the position

The Device Technician II in the Cardiology Department at UnityPoint Health is responsible for providing diagnostic services to patients with implanted cardiac devices. This role requires a strong technical background in cardiac device technology, patient interaction, and clinical work. The technician will perform device management, acquire and analyze data from various cardiac devices, and ensure optimal device function in accordance with established protocols. Additionally, the position involves patient education and maintaining knowledge of technological advances in cardiac therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform device management in accordance with clinic policy and procedure.
  • Acquire and interrogate data from pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, and implantable loop recorders.
  • Provide accurate assessments of findings from device interrogations based on cardiac pathology and electrophysiology.
  • Direct findings from device interrogations to appropriate healthcare professionals according to established protocols.
  • Make changes to programmed settings as directed by the physician to optimize device function.
  • Document and triage findings, changes, and patient responses in the patient record.
  • Contact patients regarding company recalls and facilitate necessary changes in devices.
  • Draft procedural reporting for physician interpretation.
  • Initiate billing for procedures performed.
  • Follow scheduling guidelines to ensure continuity of care for device patients.
  • Maintain knowledge of technological advances in pacing and defibrillation therapy.
  • Provide individualized education for patients and their families.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an RN/LPN accredited program or Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic level) or device industry trained representative required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise or Health Science preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in cardiology preferred.
  • Professional Licensure for State of Iowa for scope of practice required.
  • BCLS and Mandatory Reporter certifications required.
  • Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) preferred.
