About the position

BAE Systems is at the forefront of developing advanced Electronic Support Measures (ESM) and Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) systems, which play a crucial role in the Electronic Warfare (EW) and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) sectors. These sophisticated systems are deployed across a diverse range of platforms, serving multiple functions such as enhancing situational awareness and facilitating intelligence gathering. A key aspect of these systems is the precise geolocation of emitters, which is essential for effective operational capabilities. The Direction Finding and Geolocation Capability Group is a dynamic, cross-functional team that combines engineering talent, technical expertise, and cutting-edge research to support the BAE Systems Electronic Systems Defense Sector. We are seeking an experienced engineer to join our high-impact, technically oriented team, focusing on the development and integration of algorithms for direction finding (DF) and geolocation of communication and radar signals. This role will involve significant individual technical contributions across a range of programs and internal research projects, encompassing the simulation, design, development, testing, documentation, and deployment of signal processing algorithms for radiolocation. In this position, you will have the opportunity to grow within an expanding high-technology group that is dedicated to developing innovative and enhanced geolocation techniques. You will be expected to contribute to specific programs or groups of programs that involve DF/Geo content. Your responsibilities will include developing detailed technical computer simulations for complex DF/Geo algorithms and array signal processing. Additionally, you will play a vital role in group initiatives such as internal research and development, leveraging your innovation and experience to tackle complex engineering challenges, and guiding and mentoring less experienced engineers and program personnel. You will also prepare and present technical presentations to peers and internal customers, support business development efforts, and generate novel ideas to contribute to proposal efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate algorithms for direction finding and geolocation of communication and radar signals.
  • Contribute to the simulation, design, development, testing, documentation, and deployment of signal processing algorithms for radiolocation.

  • Support business development efforts and contribute to proposal efforts.

Requirements

  • Modeling and simulation experience in signal processing, direction finding, array calibration, geolocation, data association, Kalman filtering, tracking, statistics, and computational electromagnetic modeling or related domains.
  • Understanding of radar, EW, and/or SIGINT system principles and operations, including antenna and array topology, interferometry, beamforming, TDOA, FDOA, communication signals, radar signals, RF propagation, RF link analysis, co-site and co-channel interference.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance at the Secret level or higher, requiring U.S. citizenship.
  • Strong computer skills for modeling, simulation, analysis, data reduction, and visualization, including proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, Python, and MS Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and oral presentation skills for interfacing and coordinating with company personnel, internal and external customers, suppliers, and other performers.
  • Ability to work independently in an engineering development environment.
