About the position

The Diagnostic Electrician at Freeport-McMoRan plays a crucial role in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems within the smelter and rod plant. This position involves advanced troubleshooting, installation, and optimization of electrical components, ensuring safe and efficient operations. The electrician will also have opportunities to mentor and train other electrical workers, contributing to a collaborative and safety-focused work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Removal, repair, and installation of electrical components and systems.
  • Analysis and diagnosis of electrical issues, including advanced troubleshooting and systems/process optimization.
  • Safe completion of routine and non-routine repairs and construction.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on industrial electrical and instrumentation equipment.
  • Installation, repair, and troubleshooting of substations, power distribution systems, switchgear motors, and motor controls.
  • Calibration of field transmitters/transducers and weigh scales, and maintenance of low and medium voltage equipment.
  • Ensure installations and renovations comply with regulatory agency standards.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and participate in safety and environmental activities.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved Certified Electronics, Electrical and/or Instrumentation Program, OR
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in Industrial Electrical and/or Instrumentation repair and maintenance, OR
  • Associate's degree or Trade School Certification in a related field and two (2) years of experience in Industrial Electrical and/or Instrumentation repair and maintenance.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical circuits and connected equipment.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply information from technical manuals, prints, and schematics for troubleshooting and repair.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Experience with VFDs, PLC, HMI, and/or SCADA Control Systems
  • Experience working with low and medium voltages
  • Experience with AC and/or DC controls
  • Experience with instrumentation devices
  • Experience with diagnostic electrical test equipment
