About the position

The Diagnostic Imaging Biomedical Service Engineer at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital plays a crucial role in maintaining and servicing diagnostic imaging equipment, including CT and MRI units. This position is essential for ensuring the safety and functionality of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation producing equipment across various departments, contributing to the hospital's mission of providing exceptional care to children and families.

Responsibilities

  • Provides maintenance services and performs repairs and inspections on diagnostic imaging equipment.
  • Troubleshoots equipment for electronic failures and repairs by replacing components or modules.
  • Maintains required cryogen levels for MRI units and calibrates equipment per manufacturer specifications.
  • Provides routine and scheduled maintenance on all equipment, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Consults with hospital staff to optimize the use of department equipment and fabricates parts as needed.
  • Installs new or used equipment according to manufacturer specifications and assists in developing operating procedures.
  • Interacts with state regulatory agencies regarding equipment use and compliance, providing documentation for inspections.
  • Performs quality assurance reviews and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Makes decisions regarding the purchase of electronic parts and test equipment, negotiating prices with vendors.
  • Prepares and maintains equipment records, reports, and data, ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
  • Participates in project planning for equipment purchases and coordinates installation with project management teams.
  • Conducts routine safety inspections and maintains safety assessment documentation for MRI equipment.
  • Assists the MRI Safety Officer with safety-related responsibilities and maintains records associated with MRI access.
  • Negotiates and renews equipment maintenance agreements, ensuring compliance with training and service requirements.
  • Maintains positive relations with employees, staff, and visitors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required; Associate Degree in a related Technical field preferred.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the biomedical/clinical engineering field, specifically in imaging equipment repair and service required.
  • Training in repair and service of biomedical and scientific related equipment preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, PET/CT, and Fluoroscopy equipment.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and safety standards in healthcare settings.
