About the position

ECU Health Chowan Hospital is seeking a dedicated Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our Radiology team. As a credentialed medical professional, the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer will be responsible for providing high-quality diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. This role is critical in ensuring accurate imaging and patient assessments, which are essential for effective diagnosis and treatment planning. The sonographer will work within the scope of practice permitted by law, utilizing their education and clinical experience to perform various ultrasound procedures. The position requires the completion of ARDMS or ARRT (US) registration, which is the standard of practice in the field of Ultrasound. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer will be expected to work primarily during the day, with 8-hour shifts scheduled from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The role includes alternating on-call responsibilities during nights and weekends, ensuring that patient care is maintained at all times. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative team that values diversity and is committed to providing exceptional healthcare services to the community. In addition to the technical skills required for the position, the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer will be expected to demonstrate strong communication skills, compassion, and professionalism while interacting with patients and their families. Responsibilities

  • Provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures.
  • Perform ultrasound examinations in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort during ultrasound procedures.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation of ultrasound examinations.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to discuss imaging results and patient care plans.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to maintain certification and stay current with advancements in ultrasound technology.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (or higher).
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • ARDMS or ARRT (US) registration required (physics and one specialty exam AB, OB/GYN) or registry eligible with registration obtained within 12 months of date of hire.
  • 0 years of experience as a US technologist (sonographer).
