About the position

The Diagnostic Radiologic Technician is responsible for performing and coordinating all diagnostic radiology exams and fluoroscopic x-ray procedures within the Veterans Health Administration. This role involves working various shifts, including days, weekends, and nights, and may require on-call duties. The technician will ensure the quality and safety of radiographic procedures while providing patient care and support.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standard radiographic examinations of the head, trunk, and extremities for diagnoses of illness and injuries.
  • Receive patients, explain examinations, and ensure proper preparation before positioning for requested examinations.
  • Perform a variety of radiographic examinations including GI series, cholecystograms, and contrast injections.
  • Assist radiologists in fluoroscopic examinations and prepare/administer contrast media.
  • Train employees and student technologists, coordinating radiation safety and workflow.
  • Maintain records of patients examined and studies performed in the hospital information system.
  • Evaluate critical and emergency procedures, rearranging patient priorities as needed.
  • Monitor vital signs and recognize allergic reactions during procedures.
  • Perform operator maintenance on radiographic equipment as required.
  • Conduct quality control checks on radiographic studies to ensure optimal diagnostic images.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Completion of a full-time training course in diagnostic radiologic technology accredited by JRCERT or equivalent.
  • Certification in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination and background investigation.

  • 2 or more years of Radiographer experience
