About the position

The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Ultrasound) position at the Veterans Health Administration is responsible for performing a variety of ultrasound radiography procedures. The incumbent will independently conduct standard examinations, schedule patients, evaluate critical procedures, maintain patient records, and assist in training medical personnel. This role is essential for acquiring high-quality ultrasound images that aid in diagnosing and treating medical disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Advise radiologists or referring physicians of significant abnormalities requiring immediate attention during examinations.
  • Perform ultrasound examinations of various body parts including abdomen, neck, chest, and extremities to assist in diagnosis and treatment.
  • Participate in training physicians, students, and radiology technologists in ultrasound principles and practices.
  • Maintain accurate ultrasound records for easy recall of patient examinations.
  • Select appropriate transducer and protocol for each examination, making necessary adjustments to ensure accurate results.
  • Assist quality assurance technologists in performing quality assurance testing on ultrasound equipment.
  • Practice safety policies and procedures of the medical center and participate in quality assurance activities.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required to apply for this job.
  • Certification in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R) is mandatory.
  • Completion of a full-time training course in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program accredited by JRCERT or recognized by the Department of Education.
  • At least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-8 level in diagnostic radiologic technology, demonstrating clinical competencies.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced ARRT certification in modalities such as CT, MRI, or Mammography is preferred.
  • Experience in training or mentoring other medical personnel is a plus.
