About the position

The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) position at the PFC Floyd K. Lindstrom VA CBOC in Colorado Springs, CO, involves performing standard and complex imaging protocols using advanced technology, including Digital Radiography and Bone Density assessments. The DRT is expected to work independently, manage various shifts, and be available for on-call duties as necessary. This role is crucial for providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services to patients, ensuring proper procedures are followed, and maintaining equipment functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standard and complex imaging protocols using advanced technology.
  • Work independently at various tours of duty, including weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.
  • Conduct routine diagnostic radiographic examinations of various body parts in department and portable settings.
  • Perform special procedures such as long bone surveys, scoliosis studies, and bone densitometry examinations.
  • Utilize DEXA procedures to measure and assess bone loss and perform Lateral Vertebral Assessments.
  • Confer with radiologists for non-standard exams and determine technical factors for imaging.
  • Explain exams and procedures to patients to ensure understanding.
  • Ensure proper patient identification and image marking for radiographic images.
  • Register, request, cancel, and edit exams through various computer programs.
  • Schedule patient procedures and inform them of necessary preparations.
  • Inspect radiographic equipment and conduct Quality Control tests to ensure functionality.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and proper housekeeping of exposure rooms.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Certification in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R).
  • Completion of a full-time training course in diagnostic radiologic technology, accredited by JRCERT or recognized by the Department of Education.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Ability to pass a background/security investigation and urinalysis for illegal drug use.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current and maintained ARRT (R) certification is preferred.
