About the position

The Diagnostic Technical Writer at AM General LLC is responsible for developing and updating diagnostic troubleshooting and fault isolation procedures for specialized ground vehicle systems. This role ensures compliance with contractual requirements and military standards while utilizing technical data to create effective manuals. The position requires strong communication skills and a solid understanding of diagnostics and mechanical principles, contributing to the safety and efficiency of the US Armed Services and their allies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and/or update Diagnostic Troubleshooting and Fault Isolation Procedures in both paper-based and Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs)
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, MIL-STD, and JPO/TACOM guidance in developed procedures
  • Research engineering drawings and specifications, interpreting technical data from suppliers and customers
  • Utilize a break-out box and other means to induce failures on vehicle systems
  • Read trouble codes and observe UART, J1708, OBD-II, or J1939 serial data with a Maintenance Support Device (MSD)
  • Document cause-and-effect of all possible failures on a Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) spreadsheet
  • Photograph vehicle parts for use in manuals or for the Technical Illustration Group
  • Update diagnostic and troubleshooting procedures based on feedback from hands-on validation and editorial review

Requirements

  • Associates Degree with five years experience in preparation of Diagnostics/Fault Isolation/Troubleshooting procedures or equivalent four to seven years experience
  • Sound written and oral communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of diagnostics and mechanical principles
  • Capability to comprehend and disseminate publication specifications requirements
