The Die Machinist will perform a combination of duties that includes die sinking (trimmer and impression), die repair, die control, horizontal mill operations, and CNC operations. This role is essential in ensuring that dies are manufactured and maintained to the highest standards, which is critical for the production process. The Die Machinist will be responsible for calculating dimensions, planning machining, layout, and assembly operations, as well as measuring and laying out metal stock for machining. In addition to setting up and operating machine tools, including a variety of lathes, milling machines, drill presses, saws, and grinders, the Die Machinist will also repair dies to specifications and verify the conformance of machine parts to specifications. This includes verifying dimensions, clearances, and alignment of members and parts in the die, ensuring quality, and verifying the conformance of finished work to specifications. The role also involves dismantling dies and repairing or replacing parts as necessary. The Die Machinist will perform minor maintenance, area housekeeping, and material handling duties, keeping records of documentation and updating the system as needed for each task. Effectively maintaining die shop materials and tools is also a key responsibility. The position requires a strong mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills, along with the ability to read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. The Die Machinist must also be able to write routine reports and correspondence, and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
