About the position

The Die Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the die maintenance department, ensuring the proper training and supervision of employees, and maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and production. This role requires in-depth knowledge of tooling and die maintenance, as well as proficiency in various machining processes and equipment. The supervisor will collaborate with other departments to improve processes and maintain positive working relationships within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and train all current and new employees in the die maintenance department.
  • Update and monitor training logs for all employees.
  • Process, schedule, and track overtime for all employees.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Engineering on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all employees and departments.
  • Ensure the safety of all employees, including the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Report on any process and equipment problems.
  • Communicate with Press Department and Production Control to meet production needs.
  • Oversee all processes, equipment, employees, safety, and housekeeping of the area.
  • Collaborate with human resources on disciplinary actions and counseling with assigned staff.
  • Perform in-press troubleshooting and evaluation of dies/tooling/fixtures for quality and operational issues.
  • Maintain die maintenance spare parts and document die improvements.
  • Supply CAD and 3D data to vendors for spare parts for dies.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of Tooling/Die Maintenance.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Proficiency with radial arm drill press, lathe, bridge port, milling machine, surface grinders, band saw, cut-off saw, Wire EDM & Sinker, OD grinder, and CNC Mills.
  • Understanding of advanced mechanics of dies associated with blank, progressive, tandem, and/or secondary press operations.
  • Knowledge of tool steels and their applications.
  • Experience in auto parts manufacturing and metal stamping.
  • Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with CAD programs such as AutoCAD, CATIA, Fusion 360, and Bobwire.
  • Familiarity with various types of cleaning supplies and chemicals used in a factory setting.
