About the position

The position is for a highly skilled mechanic at Freeport-McMoRan, responsible for the diagnostic, maintenance, and repair of heavy equipment such as haul trucks, dozers, and loaders. The role involves performing mechanical repairs, preventative maintenance, and operating mobile equipment, while also training and mentoring other employees. This position emphasizes safety and efficiency in a dynamic mining environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic, maintenance, and repair of heavy equipment including haul trucks and dozers.
• Remove, repair, and install transmissions, engines, brakes, differentials, and other heavy equipment systems.
• Conduct mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance on machine systems.
• Prioritize and make decisions regarding equipment repair as needed.
• Maintain work orders and perform work area inspections.
• Operate mobile equipment such as overhead cranes and forklifts.
• Perform various welding techniques including carbon arc and MIG.
• Act as a fill-in supervisor as required.
• Train and mentor other employees.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Two years' experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair.
• Completion of academic and practical competencies required for the role.
• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions in English.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English regarding job assignments and safety standards.
• Excellent decision-making skills and ability to prioritize repairs.
• Ability to troubleshoot machine systems and read blueprints.
