About the position

The Diesel Diagnostic Mechanic at Freeport-McMoRan is responsible for performing diagnostic, maintenance, and repair work on heavy equipment, ensuring operational efficiency and safety. This role involves hands-on mechanical work, including the removal and installation of various components, as well as preventative maintenance tasks. The position also includes training and mentoring other employees, contributing to a collaborative and safety-focused work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic, maintenance, and repair of heavy equipment such as haul trucks, water trucks, dozers, front-end loaders, and motor graders.
  • Remove, repair, and install transmissions, engines, brakes, differentials, pumps, motors, torque converters, final drives, and other heavy equipment systems or components.
  • Conduct mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance on machine systems including hydraulic, power train, and engines.
  • Prioritize and make decisions regarding equipment repair as needed.
  • Maintain work orders and perform work area inspections.
  • Operate mobile equipment such as overhead cranes, forklifts, and boom trucks.
  • Perform various welding techniques including carbon arc, plasma, MIG, TIG, and stick.
  • Act as a fill-in supervisor as required.
  • Train and mentor other employees.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Two years' experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
  • Completion of academic and practical competencies required, including Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where applicable.
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English.
  • Ability to communicate in English regarding job assignments, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Ability to prioritize repairs and possess excellent decision-making skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machine systems.
  • Ability to work and effectively communicate with others.
  • Ability to read and use blueprints.
