About the position

The Diesel Mechanic position at Holcim US in Bellingham, WA, is focused on maintaining and repairing the commercial diesel fleet for the aggregates and ready-mix divisions. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and efficiency of construction projects by keeping the fleet in optimal condition. The position requires a skilled individual who is safety-conscious and capable of performing mechanical repairs both in the shop and on the road.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine services and maintenance (lube, oil change, 6/12/36 month services)
  • Perform vehicle inspections compliant with DOT regulations and complete corresponding paperwork
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues with accuracy and in a timely manner
  • Develop repair plan to ensure a complete, safe and timely repair
  • Perform mechanical repairs in the shop and roadside, depending on where a breakdown occurs
  • Navigate electronic Parts System Database to locate and bill parts according to unit in repair
  • Complete parts order request forms to include judgment calls on tagging out units
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area
  • Maintain shop equipment
  • Always be safety conscious, especially when using powered equipment, maneuvering equipment/vehicles, and warn others before performing repairs that will include loud noise, sparks or fumes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years job specific experience
  • Knowledge of machines/tools used for repair and maintenance of diesel trucks
  • Ability to read and create work orders in English
  • Trade school training (preferred)
  • CDL (preferred)
  • Welding skills (preferred)
  • Negative pre-employment drug screen (required)
  • Eligibility to work in the US

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with ready-mix trucks, various gravel trucks, and shop equipment
  • Ability to operate Shop Tools, Air and Hydraulic Jacks, Grinders and Welders
