About the position

The Diesel Mechanic Technician B is responsible for ensuring the safety and operational efficiency of the company's fleet diesel equipment. This role involves repairing, maintaining, and overhauling medium to heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and refrigeration units to meet compliance standards and ensure safe operation for associates. The position offers opportunities for growth within the food distribution system and emphasizes a safe and inclusive working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on medium to heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and reefer units under minimal supervision.
  • Identify root causes of basic failures and perform necessary repairs.
  • Ensure equipment has required licensing and registration before being deemed roadworthy.
  • Document work orders for repairs and preventative maintenance through the online Enterprise Asset Management system.
  • Install, replace, and repair onboard computers.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, and other critical parts to ensure proper operating condition.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication of equipment using hand and power tools.
  • Train and provide guidance to other mechanics.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent
  • 3 - 5 years of proven medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair experience, including PM's, tire & wheel, air & air disc brakes, diagnosis, computerized diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, and experience in refrigeration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates/2-Year Technical Degree
  • Vocational / Trade School Diploma
  • 5 - 7 years of proven medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair experience, including PM's, tire & wheel, air & air disc brakes, diagnosis, computerized diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, and experience in refrigeration.
  • Preferred certifications in tire & wheel, brakes, AC &/or EPA, DOT inspections, transmissions, engines, ASE Heavy Duty.
