About the position
The Diesel Technician - Class B plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and operational efficiency of the company's fleet diesel equipment. This position involves repairing, maintaining, and overhauling medium to heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and refrigeration units to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations. The technician works under minimal supervision and is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and minor repairs, contributing to a safe working environment for all associates.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on medium to heavy-duty trucks, trailers, reefer units, and convertor dollies.
- Complete minor repairs and standard component inspections of fleet diesel equipment.
- Identify root causes of basic failures and perform necessary repairs.
- Ensure equipment has required licensing and registration before being deemed roadworthy.
- Document work orders of repairs and preventative maintenance through the online Enterprise Asset Management system.
- Install, replace, and repair onboard computers.
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other critical parts for proper operating condition.
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment using hand and power tools.
- Train and provide guidance to other mechanics.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent
- 3 - 5 years of proven medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair experience including PM's, tire & wheel, air & air disc brakes, diagnosis, computerized diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, and electronic component repair.
