About the position

The Diesel Mechanic Technician in Charge at Ryder is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty vehicles while supporting and training other technicians in the shop. This role includes providing excellent customer service, managing parts distribution, and ensuring efficient shop operations. Responsibilities

  • Assist and train technicians as needed.
  • Provide customer service to daily customers.
  • Give feedback to the Service Manager on employee performance for appraisal or disciplinary purposes.
  • Oversee parts distribution and inventory management.
  • Manage shop reporting and warranty recovery processes.
  • Track unit performance and assist with payroll administration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor/Manager.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Vocational or Technical Certification or Post Secondary degree preferred.
  • Basic tools required.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines.
  • Experience in routine preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs including AC and electrical systems.
  • Advanced skilled level repairs including major engine repairs and diesel after treatment required.
  • Four (4) years or more relevant work experience preferred.
  • Must be able to read codes and instructions on the computer.
  • Computer experience in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and internet usage required.
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A preferred.
  • Must meet minimum Tech II up to Tech IV qualifications plus a minimum of 6 months supervisory or training experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with maintenance computerized programs for reporting and communication.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including shift work, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations.
