About the position

The Diesel Mechanic at ABM Industries is responsible for performing a full range of skilled mechanical maintenance, diagnostics, inspections, and repairs on passenger shuttle buses. This role is crucial for ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of the bus fleet, adhering to state requirements and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, adjust and repair diesel powered buses
• Perform general installation, repair, replacement and adjustment of various bus components including bearings, ignitions, transmissions, and suspension systems
• Conduct preventative maintenance on the bus fleet and road test vehicles post-repair
• Inspect buses and ensure compliance with state regulations
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area and repair shop facilities
• Keep records of vehicle identification, maintenance, and repairs performed
• Maintain inventory of parts and supplies for vehicle repairs and compare vendors for quality and pricing

Requirements

• Four years of experience as a mechanic, specifically with school buses, gas and diesel engines, or passenger shuttle buses
• ASE certifications in engine repair, Automatic Transmission, Suspension & Steering, Brakes, Electrical Systems, and Heating & Air Conditioning preferred
• Ability to perform mechanical work including diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment
• Knowledge of safety practices and operational hazards in the mechanical field
• Valid Class B driver's license

Nice-to-haves

• Certificates or proof of continuing education in the mechanical field, such as Cummins, Caterpillar, or Allison transmissions
• Experience with welding techniques
