About the position

The Diesel Mechanic position at Interstate Waste Services, Inc. is crucial for maintaining the operational efficiency of the company's fleet. Diesel Mechanics are responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing various systems on heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment. This role emphasizes safety, skill development, and the provision of high-quality service to both employees and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspection, diagnosis, preventative maintenance, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
  • Utilize diagnostic software to interpret failure modes and initiate or assign necessary repairs.
  • Assist with emergency breakdowns when on call.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and adhere to safety protocols.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • A valid driver's license is required; CDL preferred.
  • Experience working on heavy-duty diesel equipment or training from a recognized trade school is required.
  • Ability to speak and read English well enough to converse with colleagues and make legible entries on reports.
  • Must meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.
  • Must provide own tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2+ years experience working as a heavy-duty Diesel Mechanic.
  • Experience with troubleshooting/repairing DPF systems and diagnostic software such as Premium Tech Tool (Mack), Allison transmission, Cummins, CAT, Peterbilt, and Paccar.
  • Working knowledge of applicable DOT and OSHA standards and regulations.
