About the position

The Diesel Mechanic position involves diagnosing and repairing issues with heavy-duty vehicles, particularly trucks, while ensuring a safe and efficient work environment. The role requires a strong understanding of vehicle systems and components, as well as the ability to perform both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and diagnose repairs on heavy-duty vehicles such as brake chambers, glad hands, tires, batteries, and air/coolant hoses.
• Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles.
• Prepare work orders and order necessary parts.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and drivers.
• Conduct thorough and accurate diagnostic and preventative maintenance inspections.
• Complete all required PM maintenance operations including lubrication, fluid changes, brake adjustments, and tire rotation.
• Perform unscheduled maintenance as needed.
• Carry out complex operations including engine, electrical, fuel, brake, and exhaust repairs and field tests.
• Utilize ladders and other elevation equipment for repairs and maintenance.
• Operate CDL and Non-CDL vehicles for road tests and shuttling in and out of the garage for repairs and maintenance.
• Document repairs and parts on work orders accurately.
• Familiarize with all safety provisions associated with vehicle maintenance and understand OSHA standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Associate degree or completion of a diesel service technician training program is preferred.
• Strong customer service and communication skills are required.
• In-depth understanding of truck systems and components is necessary.
• Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 100lbs) including brake drums, tires, and tool chests.
