About the position

The Penske Mobile Technician role involves assisting in the repair and diagnosis of major vehicle components, performing preventive maintenance, and working independently in a flexible environment. The technician will utilize a fully equipped service truck to deliver high-quality maintenance services directly to customers, ensuring vehicles are in optimal working condition.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the repair and diagnosis of engines, power train, electrical systems, HVAC systems, steering systems, and more.
  • Perform mechanical and general appearance reconditioning of equipment for trade-ins and prepare new equipment for delivery.
  • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units.
  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services with minimal supervision.
  • Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair orders.
  • Maintain on-site work area appearance, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Comply with all Penske and customer work requirements.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions or ensure proper functioning.
  • Use hand tools and power tools for repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, and other critical components.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes and equipment lubrication.
  • Adjust and replace brakes, tighten bolts, and reassemble equipment as needed.
  • Inspect, test, and diagnose defective equipment using various test instruments.
  • Examine and adjust protective guards and safety devices as required.
  • Specialize in repairing major components such as engines and transmissions.
  • Order, receive, and manage parts inventory effectively.
  • Serve as the primary customer contact for day-to-day needs and escalate issues as necessary.
  • Manage tire and wheel inspections and inventory.
  • Follow Penske safety practices at all times.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational/Technical certification preferred.
  • Specialized training in vehicle component repair preferred.
  • Proficiency in the use of shop tools required.
  • Current CDL license with air brake certification required, or willingness to acquire one.
  • DOT medical card or ability to obtain one prior to starting work.
  • Ability to read a map and operate a 26,000 non-articulated vehicle safely.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry into maintenance systems required.
  • Ability to work in non-climate controlled conditions required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and safety regulations.
