About The Position

The Senior Level Diesel Technician at Ryder is responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy-duty vehicles within the company's truck fleet. This permanent full-time position is based in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and involves performing complex mechanical and electronic diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repairs with minimal supervision. The role also includes mentoring junior technicians and ensuring compliance with safety and operational guidelines.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Vocational or Technical Certification or Post Secondary degree preferred.
• Basic tools required.
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines.
• Three (3) years or more relevant work experience preferred.
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A preferred.
• Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy-duty and medium-duty equipment.
• Knowledge of and ability to apply computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire.
• Pass a Ryder Drug Test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and background check.

Nice To Haves

• ASE Certifications in diesel technology or related fields.
• Experience with heavy-duty vehicle diagnostics and repair.

Responsibilities

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard vehicle maintenance and preventive maintenance.
• Diagnoses complex mechanical and electronic problems utilizing diagnostic computers when applicable.
• Completes complex and detailed mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision.
• Replaces defective components as instructed and works unsupervised on most tasks.
• Performs facility maintenance duties and interacts with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints.
• Utilizes key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation available.
• Works in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT).
• Acts as a mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels.
• Demonstrates the ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documents.
• Completes additional support duties as required to support operations.
