About the position

The Bus Driver/Courier position at Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury is a vital role responsible for the safe transportation of residents to various destinations, including grocery shopping, doctor's appointments, and recreational outings. The driver operates a mini-bus and other company vehicles, ensuring that residents are transported safely and comfortably. This position requires collaboration with the Activities Personnel to plan and implement trips and outings that cater to the needs and desires of the residents. The driver must maintain a professional demeanor and provide a caring image while supporting the mission and purpose of the organization. In addition to driving responsibilities, the Bus Driver/Courier is tasked with maintaining a log for vehicle maintenance, ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation regulations, and coordinating repairs as needed. The driver is also responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of the vehicles, performing pre- and post-trip inspections, and ensuring that all necessary emergency equipment is available on board. The role may also involve providing support at the reception desk and assisting with courier services as required. The position requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a minimum Class C and a "P" endorsement, along with CPR certification. Previous experience operating a 16-passenger vehicle and working with adult populations, particularly those with physical disabilities, is preferred. The driver must also be willing to undergo annual Tuberculosis testing and attend mandatory in-services as required by state licensure and regulatory agencies. This role is essential in fostering a supportive and engaging environment for residents, ensuring their transportation needs are met with care and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Transport residents for grocery shopping, doctor's appointments, field trips, and other outings.
  • Operate a mini-bus and company passenger vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Assist Activities Personnel with planning and implementing trips and outings.
  • Maintain a maintenance log for the vehicles and coordinate repairs with the supervisor.
  • Ensure the renewal of the commercial driver's license and update the supervisor on new regulations.
  • Drive the facility minibus for special trips and appointments, assisting residents as needed.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of the minibus and ensure emergency kits are stocked.
  • Provide relief at the reception desk when needed and assist with courier services.
  • Deposit mail at the Post Office and coordinate mail deposits when off duty.
  • Abide by all policies and procedures related to confidentiality of resident information.

Requirements

  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with "P" endorsement required.
  • Previous experience operating at least a 16-passenger vehicle preferred.
  • Ability to work with adult populations, especially those who are aged or have physical disabilities preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • CPR Certification required or willingness to be trained.
