About the position
The Diet Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring that patients receive the correct nourishment according to their dietary needs. This position involves transcribing patient diet orders, maintaining accurate diet history files, and collaborating with clinical nutrition staff to meet specialized dietary requirements. The role is part-time and operates on a per diem basis, requiring flexibility in hours based on departmental needs.
Responsibilities
- Transcribe patient diet orders using department software.
- Enter nourishment specifications, allergies, and food dislikes into patient diet history files.
- Check the accuracy of the substitution list generated by the information system.
- Calculate fluid restrictions and specialized meal patterns according to procedures.
- Process patient tray tickets to ensure accuracy according to diet prescriptions.
- Receive information regarding new admissions, transfers, and diet changes via various channels.
- Update patient menus and tray tickets as needed.
- Print tray tickets, tally reports, and nourishment labels on diet office printers.
- Accept credit card payments and track meals for reporting purposes.
- Initiate downtime and emergency procedures when required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.
- Minimum of 1 year related work experience preferred.
- Prior customer service experience preferred.
