About the position

The Dietary Aide plays a crucial role in ensuring that patients receive their meals in a timely and efficient manner, adhering to specific dietary requirements and instructions. This position involves preparing patient trays according to detailed instructions and orders, which requires a keen attention to detail and a thorough understanding of dietary needs. The Dietary Aide assists in the preparation and portioning of meal items, ensuring that all food items are prepared in accordance with the established menu and dietary guidelines. Proper food handling techniques are essential, as the aide is responsible for the safe preparation, setup, and serving of food trays to patients. In addition to food preparation, the Dietary Aide is tasked with maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and dining areas. This includes cleaning, washing, and sanitizing dishes, flatware, and utensils used in serving meals. The aide also assists in keeping the dishwashing area clean and organized, ensuring that all equipment and work areas are sanitized and ready for use. Stocking food storage areas and refrigerators is another responsibility, as is delivering food, nourishments, and supplies to nursing units and other designated areas within the facility. Overall, the Dietary Aide must work collaboratively with other staff members, communicating effectively to ensure that all dietary needs are met and that patients receive their meals as scheduled. This role is vital in promoting the health and well-being of residents through proper nutrition and meal service.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient trays according to instructions/orders.
  • Assists in preparation and portioning of meal items according to menu and dietary requirements.
  • Employs proper food handling techniques whether in preparation of food, setting up, or serving trays.
  • Cleans, washes, and sanitizes dishes, flatware, and utensils used to serve patients and others.
  • Assists in maintaining the general cleanliness of the dishwashing area.
  • Cleans work area and equipment as assigned.
  • Puts up stock in food storage areas and refrigerators as assigned.
  • Delivers food, nourishments, and supplies to Nursing Units and other areas as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possesses a High School Diploma or sufficient knowledge and education to perform job functions.
  • Experience in Dietary Department, large volume food preparation, and service preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with other staff members, referral sources, residents, their families, and physicians.
  • Has no findings of resident abuse, mistreatment, neglect, or misappropriation of resident property listed on the registry.
  • Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, and possess sufficient communication skills to perform the tasks required.
