About the position

The Dietary Aide position is a part-time role focused on supporting the food service operations within a healthcare or similar setting. The aide will assist in meal preparation, serving, and maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen area, while reporting directly to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor. This role requires the ability to learn quickly and work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure a smooth dining experience for residents or patients.

Responsibilities

• Learn food service routine within a short period.
• Set up meal trays for service.
• Strip down returned trays and wash dishes.
• Assist with serving different meals.
• Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the beginning of the shift.
• Observe water temperatures of the dishwasher during dishwashing cycles.
• Operate the dishwasher effectively.
• Prepare nourishments and snacks as needed.
• Sweep and mop the kitchen area.
• Carry out trash and garbage disposal.
• Put groceries away in a safe, orderly, and clean manner.
• Leave the kitchen in a clean and sanitary condition.
• Assist the cook or dietary supervisor when called upon.
• Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
• Maintain floors by sweeping and mopping.
• Participate in the orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must obtain and maintain a food handlers' certificate.
• Ability to read technical procedures and follow recipes.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions.
