About the position

The Dietary Aide at Children's Health of Northern California is responsible for preparing formula and meals for patients under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian. This role involves ensuring that food preparation adheres to established guidelines, maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen, and supporting the dietary needs of patients in a skilled nursing facility.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares all formula and enterals according to guidelines provided by Registered Dietitian.
  • Helps prepare diets for patients at CHONC under supervision of Registered Dietitian.
  • Washes hands meticulously and puts on clean apron before any food/formula preparation.
  • Prepares afternoon and evening nourishment if needed and places it in the refrigerator.
  • Reads diet to determine appropriate preparation of formula/enterals.
  • Distributes food items apportioned according to diet order and menu.
  • Collects and stacks dirty dishes.
  • Washes all bottles, dishes, cooking and serving utensils per policy and cleans the kitchen including counters, cupboards, and sink after food preparation.
  • Operates electric dishwasher and other mechanical equipment.
  • Cleans work areas, tables, cabinets, dining area, stove, and ovens.
  • Sweeps and mops the kitchen area.
  • Transports and stores supplies.
  • Collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers according to regulatory requirements and washes garbage cans.
  • Performs other related tasks as directed.
  • At end of shift, checks with Charge Nurse to see if any further help is needed from dietary.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Dietary experience in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) or acute care setting preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Presents a neat, clean appearance and has the ability to work effectively with other staff members and patients.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stoop, bend, stand for long periods, and carry 25-50 pounds for short distances.
