About the position

The Dietary Supervisor is responsible for organizing, planning, and supervising the dietary department functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local standards. This role involves working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that residents receive appropriate nutritional care while treating them with kindness and respect. The supervisor will also monitor staff adherence to safety and sanitation guidelines and ensure timely meal service.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising, staffing, and training dietary staff
  • Partnering with the Dietician to ensure diet meets residents' nutritional needs
  • Monitoring staff adherence to sanitation, safety, and procedural guidelines
  • Participating in facility surveys and inspections, developing corrective plans if deficiencies are noted
  • Reviewing menus prior to food preparation
  • Inspecting special diet trays to confirm correct diets are served
  • Assuring all meals, including snacks, are served on time
  • Ensuring food service equipment is clean and operable
  • Coordinating food service with other departments
  • Checking food storage rooms and utility/janitorial closets for regulatory compliance
  • Following safety regulations and precautions at all times
  • Ensuring charted dietary progress notes are informative and descriptive
  • Attending meetings and serving on committees as needed
  • Providing reports for dietary programs when requested
  • Adhering to all dietary policies and procedures of the facility
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of accredited course in dietetic training approved by the American Dietetic Association
  • Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience in food services for a nursing facility or hospital
  • Training in food management
  • Knowledgeable of food procedures
  • Ability to communicate efficiently
