About the position

The Clinical Dietitian position within the U.S. Government involves providing comprehensive nutritional care to patients, particularly veterans, through assessment, planning, and implementation of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT). The role emphasizes individualized care based on the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) and requires collaboration with food service operations to ensure patient satisfaction. The dietitian will also engage in nutrition education and counseling, utilizing evidence-based practices to promote health and manage chronic diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments utilizing the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) for assigned patients.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans for Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) in accordance with patients' medical goals.
  • Perform Nutrition Focused Physical Exams (NFPE) to assess malnutrition risk.
  • Calculate nutrient requirements and necessary diet restrictions or food/drug interactions.
  • Evaluate data patterns to identify root causes of nutrition problems.
  • Tailor diet prescriptions to individual patient needs considering various factors.
  • Utilize evidence-based guidelines to develop shared goals with patients.
  • Support veteran-centric food service operations and ensure patient satisfaction with meals.
  • Identify patients needing nutritional support and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Document nutrition care plans and evaluate the effectiveness of MNT interventions.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Registered Dietitian license required.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in dietetics or a related field.
  • Completion of an ACEND accredited supervised practice program.
  • Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Basic knowledge of dietetics principles and practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in nutrition or related field.
  • Experience in women's health nutrition care.
  • Experience in nutrition care for disordered eating.
