The Dietitian position at UPMC Altoona involves providing nutrition-related expertise as part of an interdisciplinary team to manage the nutritional needs of hospitalized patients. The role focuses on delivering quality patient care through Medical Nutrition Therapy, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and participating in quality improvement initiatives within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality patient care to diverse patient populations using Medical Nutrition Therapy, including assessment, goals, and plan of care.
  • Act as a nutrition liaison/expert to assigned units and/or committees, responding to needs and initiatives for nutrition care process improvement.
  • Demonstrate effective communication methods as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Knowledgeable about outpatient billing guidelines and perform necessary documentation to ensure compliance with client charges and regulatory requirements.
  • Formulate a Nutrition Diagnosis and identify Malnutrition through Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment and established criteria.
  • Provide appropriate nutritional education and counseling based on patient/family learning needs and abilities.
  • Demonstrate professional writing skills adaptable to all health literacy levels in preparing materials, presentations, and communications.
  • Provide timely interventions as determined by the Nutrition Risk level and the Plan of Care.
  • Participate in department-based Quality Process Improvement activities, endorsing evidence-based practice.
  • Execute order writing as governed by the Dietitian Delegation Order system protocol.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Registered Dietitian within 6 months of hire.
  • Licensed Dietitian within 9 months of hire.
