About the position

The Digital Asset Manager is a fixed-term role focused on developing and managing operations related to the museum's digital media. This position will oversee the ingestion workflows, organization, storage, and accessibility of digital assets and associated metadata. The role is integral to the implementation of the museum's new data asset management system (DAMS) and will collaborate with various teams to ensure the successful launch of the DAMS scheduled for spring 2025. This position is grant-funded and will last for three years, from February 2025 to February 2028.

Responsibilities

  • Develop operations for managing the museum's digital media, including ingestion workflows and accessibility of digital assets.
  • Create a long-term plan for the storage, organization, and preservation of digital assets.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the DAMS, including maintaining and adjusting standards and protocols for asset ingest and rights management.
  • Work with the Collections Database Administrator to configure and customize the DAMS to meet institutional needs.
  • Lead projects in support of systems development, such as metadata cleanup and duplicate asset remediation.
  • Provide ad hoc support, including troubleshooting and training sessions for staff.
  • Draft and maintain user documentation and train new account holders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in library science, digital preservation, or related discipline with coursework in archival studies or art history.
  • At least three years of experience administering or managing a DAMS.
  • Knowledge of current best practices in digital collections and archival management.
  • Understanding of metadata schemas such as IPTC, VRACore, PBCore, and Dublin Core.
  • Familiarity with copyright and permissions issues related to accessing collections.
  • Expertise in managing media files, including raw files and derivatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage projects effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Media Studio, TMS, or TMS Collections.
  • Experience working in a museum setting.
  • Familiarity with Open Access and public-facing web platforms.
  • Knowledge of cultural heritage ontologies such as Getty vocabularies.
  • Comfort with project management tools like Asana and Google Workspace.
