About the position

The Digital Communications Manager at the University of California Riverside (UCR) plays a pivotal role in overseeing the strategic planning, creation, and management of digital content across various platforms, including websites, social media, and other digital communication channels. This position is situated within the Office of Marketing and Communications of the Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering, which collaborates closely with Development, Student Affairs, Undergraduate Admissions, and Graduate Division units to foster a vibrant community of engineers committed to educational excellence. In this role, the Digital Communications Manager will report directly to the Director of Marketing and will be responsible for promoting college initiatives through effective digital strategies. The manager will lead a team of student assistants, manage content calendars, and analyze and report on college rankings to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a solid background in digital marketing, and the ability to work collaboratively with various internal and external teams. The position requires a hands-on approach to developing marketing campaigns, managing contact databases of key external audiences, and ensuring that all digital content aligns with the college's messaging and objectives. Candidates will be expected to present a digital portfolio, writing samples, design samples, or a sample campaign during the interview process, showcasing their expertise in digital communications and marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the strategic planning, creation, and management of digital content across various platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to promote college initiatives.
  • Manage content calendars and lead a team of student assistants.
  • Analyze and report on college rankings and develop marketing campaigns.
  • Manage contact databases of key external audiences, including students, alumni, and donors.
  • Produce design and layout for a variety of web applications and information architecture.
  • Consult with clients on digital communications projects and develop web content and visual material.
  • Ensure technical accuracy and understandability of web content.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.
  • 4 - 7 years of related experience in digital communications or marketing.
  • Experience analyzing and reporting performance on websites and social media channels.
  • Knowledge of social media channels and their effective utilization.
  • Experience with video production, editing, and finalization of videos.
  • Experience in systematically monitoring conversations and trends related to brand reputation.
  • Experience working in a matrix organization/environment.
  • Experience marketing engineering, technology, or STEM education.
  • Strong editing and writing skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Educational background in Computer Science, Sociology, Data Analytics, or Marketing.
  • Training in user experience, web design, and graphics.
  • Experience in video production and editing.
