About the position

Bard College seeks a strategic, creative, and forward-thinking Digital Content Editor to join the Office of Public Relations. The Digital Content Editor will report to the Associate Director of Digital Communications and will play a crucial role in assisting with content strategy and development aimed at driving enrollment, raising awareness of the College, and engaging a diverse range of constituents. This position is responsible for creating website content, managing the digital newsroom, running the College's main social media channels, writing feature articles, and creating e-newsletters. The ideal candidate will be adept at crafting compelling narratives that resonate with various audiences while maintaining the College's voice and mission. In this role, the Digital Content Editor will act as a web content strategist, writer, and editor, supporting public relations initiatives by promoting press releases and media coverage of the College. The editor will write feature articles that highlight campus events, academic research, and the activities of students and faculty. Additionally, the position entails copy editing, fact-checking, and proofreading web content to ensure accuracy and clarity. The editor will coordinate with communications staff across Bard programs, both on and off campus, to generate story ideas and engage in social listening to stay informed about news and events. The Digital Content Editor will also monitor and co-manage campus calendars, supervise student writers and photographers, and analyze performance metrics to stay informed on social media technology and trends. This role requires a collaborative approach, as the editor will support, advise, and teach campus communications staff about social media and web content best practices. Furthermore, the editor will work closely with the Office of Web Services on the creation of new websites and the redesign of existing ones, ensuring that all digital content aligns with the College's strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a web content strategist, writer, and editor
  • Support public relations initiatives, promoting press releases and media coverage of the College
  • Write feature articles about campus events, academic research, and student and faculty activities
  • Assume responsibility for copy editing, fact checking, and proofreading web content
  • Coordinate with communications staff in Bard programs on and off campus to generate story ideas
  • Engage in a variety of social listening, monitoring campus newsletters, social media, and other internal and external communications to keep abreast of news and events
  • Monitor and co-manage campus calendars
  • Supervise student writers and photographers, acting as content editor
  • Analyze performance and stay informed on social media technology and trends
  • Support, advise, and teach campus communications staff about social media and web content best practices
  • Work closely with the Office of Web Services on creation of new websites and redesign of existing websites

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism, English, communications, or related field
  • Experience in feature writing, copywriting, copy editing, and public relations
  • Expert writer accustomed to writing for a variety of media and audiences-especially the web-in a deadline-driven environment
  • Expertise in social media, web-based content strategies, the mobile landscape, SEO, digital marketing, and content management systems
  • Ability to edit the writing of others
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Lightroom and Photoshop
  • Experience in higher education a plus
