About the position
The Digital Content Producer at KGTV, The E.W. Scripps Company, is responsible for creating engaging online content that drives audience interaction and web traffic. This role involves crafting articles from various news sources, managing social media posts, and collaborating with the Assignment Desk to ensure comprehensive local news coverage. The position requires strong writing, video editing, and social media skills to effectively communicate stories that resonate with the San Diego community.
Responsibilities
- Turn breaking news, enterprise stories, press releases, and news tips into unique web articles.
- Partner with and perform Assignment Desk duties as assigned.
- Post articles to social media to drive engagement and web clicks.
- Cut video and assign engaging metadata for various platforms.
- Build and monitor livestreams to multiple platforms.
- Edit platform-specific social media graphics to enhance storytelling.
- Assist in online coverage of major news events and severe weather.
- Build out special sections and site features to enhance coverage and increase user engagement.
- Update and interact with fans/followers on social media.
- Collaborate with editorial and technical staff to migrate multimedia content to new media platforms.
- Optimize user experience by tracking live web metrics and applying SEO best practices.
Requirements
- BS/BA in related discipline preferred or equivalent years of experience.
- Generally 3+ years of experience in a related field preferred.
- Skilled with content management systems, HTML, audio editing, image editing, and CSS.
- Strong desire to focus on web-based content.
- Basic HTML formatting skills and working knowledge of FTP.
- Creative with good collaboration and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to handle deadline pressure and multi-tasking.
- Working knowledge of social media platforms.
- Photo editing skills with the ability to manipulate images for publishing.
- Demonstrated experience with creative video editing for social and web platforms.
- Strong grammar skills and attention to detail.
