About the position
The Digital Content Producer (DCP) at 2 NEWS is responsible for writing, updating, and sharing stories for wdtn.com, focusing on local news, breaking news, and nationally trending stories. The role aims to increase website pageviews and user engagement while maintaining journalistic integrity. The DCP must be proactive, critical-thinking, and able to work under tight deadlines to deliver real-time news to the audience.
Responsibilities
- Be the first to report breaking news stories.
- Monitor analytic tools (Adobe Analytics & Chartbeat), social media, alerts, and all regional media for interesting and/or trending stories.
- Write daily flip stories (average 6-8 stories/day) that are packaged to grow pages per session and time on page while utilizing SEO best practices.
- Constantly monitor competition to ensure no flip stories across the DMA are missed.
- Proofread, package, and promote stories from third-party feed partners (Nexstar Wire, NewsNation, AP, NBC, etc.).
- Proofread, package, and promote broadcast reporter stories.
- Work with producers and news field crew on adding video to web stories.
- Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with other members of the newsroom.
- Manage passive livestreams.
- Push engaging and breaking stories on the mobile app.
- Generate meaningful audience engagement on social media without baiting.
- Develop new digital content ideas for wdtn.com.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field (equivalent experience may substitute).
- Expertise with CMS workflow, digital storytelling tools, and FOIA and RTK process is preferred.
- Ability to handle high-stress environment and deadline pressures.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in SEO best practices.
- Proficiency in AP Style writing.
- Familiarity with the FOIA and RTK process.
- Expert in writing accurate, in-depth, digital news stories.
- Comfortable with cold calling to develop stories.
- Highly detail-oriented with an instinct for newsroom judgment.
- Self-starting in seeking out engaging shareable stories.
